11+ Maths BIDMAS / Order of Operations

BIDMAS (Brackets, Indices, Division, Multiplication, Addition, Subtraction) questions test whether a child applies operations in the correct order. They appear regularly in the 11+ Maths paper and are one of the most avoidable sources of lost marks — children who don't internalise the rule often work left-to-right and get a wrong answer that nonetheless 'feels right'.
